Dr Steffen Grünler studied geography with a focus on geoinformatics and remote sensing at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. He then worked at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome on the standardisation of measurement protocols. He completed his PhD at the Universität Hamburg in the field of ocean remote sensing, investigating the potential of satellite-based current measurements.
As a post-doc, he joined the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW), where he worked at the interface between numerical modelling and field measurements of suspended matter dynamics in estuaries. His focus was on the precise determination of measurement uncertainties and the quality assurance of oceanographic and hydrographic measurement data.
Since 2018, he has been working at the Centre for Sustainable Research Data Management. In his role as a consultant for the Research Information System (CRIS), he is responsible for technical support, ongoing development of the system and quality assurance of metadata.
