About us
The Center for Sustainable Research Data Management (RDM Center) is a central institution of the Universität Hamburg, which is assigned to the Vice-President for Research (VP3). The RDM Center bundles infrastructures, competencies and tasks as well as in the Regional Data Center (RRZ) in order to offer sustainable services.
The FDM Center at a Glance:
- Research Information System (RIS)
Operation and further development of the research information system (RIS) of the UHH, in which, in addition to the relevant personal data, the metadata about research projects, the publications and the references to the research data are collected from the projects and are offered for research. The RIS provides research opportunities for research projects, third-party funding and publications. Hamburg Open Science. The public portal Research Information offers search options for publications, research projects and other data on research at UHH. - Research Data Management
All scientists are offered advice and support for the sustainable handling of research data. This includes the creation of data management plans (e.g. for third-party funding applications) and advice on questions regarding the development and selection of software for the development of own applications. The secure and long-term storage of data and digital copies - as required by research funding bodies - is guaranteed via the research data repository. Existing, high-quality data storage services (e.g. climate data, DKRZ, DESY) will continue to be used and integrated by the scientists (linking of data). In addition, the long-term maintenance of research platforms, software and web applications and an offer for the simple creation of databases with the Heurist tool. - Open Access / Open Data / Open Science
Open Access (OA) will play a growing role in science. In addition to the existing Open-Access-Portal, legal expert advice will be necessary, especially in the transition phase from Closed to Open Access. The UHH has various contracts that enable inexpensive or even free OA publication (Offers of the State- and Universitylibrary) and via an open access fund. - Electronic laboratory notebook
Electronic lab notebooks are increasingly replacing paper-based documentation in the laboratory. With eLabFTW, the FDM Center provides an open source solution that can be used in many areas of application. - Digitization at the UHH
In close cooperation with the Digital Office and the RRZ of the UHH, the FDM Center develops digital solutions for the UHH and provides them as an offer, e.g. UHH-GPT, the data protection-friendly access to a powerful chat bot. - Digitization of objects for research
For the digitization of objects for research, more specific offers are being expanded or built up. The digitization of audio and video material (old tapes, super-8 films, etc.), special events and other artifacts (3D objects, e.g. from the collections) which are of interest to science are to be offered to the scientists as a service.
