About UHHApp
Questions and Answers, Release Notes, and Roadmap for the UHHApp.
Questions and Answers
Why aren’t my academic records shown directly in the UHHApp?
You can find everything related to your studies, academic records, and courses in STiNE. Since STiNE already has a mobile-optimized website, we chose not to integrate it into the UHHApp.
Why isn’t the semester ticket integrated into the UHHApp?
The semester ticket is provided directly by hvv and S-Bahn Hamburg in the RIDE Campus portal. There, you can view the verification screen and also add the ticket to your smartphone wallet.
Displaying or transferring it in the UHHApp is not currently planned.
Why doesn’t the UHHApp run on older smartphones / F-Droid?
The UHHApp runs on smartphones with Android 10+ and iOS 15.0+. Older versions of Android and iOS are generally no longer supported by Google and Apple with security and feature updates. We do not currently support alternative app stores, such as F-Droid.
Do any costs arise from the UHHApp?
The UHHApp is free. However, using the app requires an active internet connection via Wi‑Fi or mobile data; depending on your mobile phone contract, costs may be incurred for mobile data usage.
How secure is the UHHApp?
The UHHApp has been tested by an external security company, and the app stores of Google and Apple also check apps for security and vulnerabilities before they are released.
In addition, the app’s design is set up so that only the absolutely necessary data is requested and stored on your smartphone in encrypted form. No data is shared or transferred to external services.
Can I submit suggestions for the UHHApp or report errors?
Yes. You can report errors, discrepancies, and problems—as well as suggestions—using our contact form. We try to fix errors and discrepancies with the next app update. For requests regarding further development, we add them to the roadmap if implementation is possible; otherwise, we document rejected suggestions in anonymous form and explain why they won’t be implemented.
Display: Why isn’t there a Dark Mode everywhere, and why isn’t landscape orientation supported?
Why isn’t there a Dark Mode everywhere?
All features implemented directly in the UHHApp support Dark Mode. Linked websites and web applications often do not offer Dark Mode themselves, and this cannot be changed within the UHHApp.
Why isn’t landscape orientation available for the UHHApp?
Currently, the UHHApp prevents display in landscape orientation to avoid display issues and compatibility problems with accessibility. However, it is planned to support landscape view in a later version of the UHHApp.
My ID details don’t match—what can I do?
Student ID card / Staff ID card
The data shown on the student/staff ID card is stored under your user account in UHH’s central systems. In case of discrepancies, this data can only be changed via the Student Administration Office or the Staff Administration Office.
Library card and account
The data shown in the library card and account is loaded directly from your library account. If there are any discrepancies, please contact the relevant library or the SUB.
No data can be changed via the UHHApp.
I’m having problems with the barcode on my library card!
The barcode shown on the library card is the same as the one on the physical plastic card. If the barcode displayed in the UHHApp cannot be read by the barcode scanners in a library, there may be several reasons:
- A screen protector may interfere with detection, or the display brightness may be too low or too high.
You can adjust the settings on your smartphone; it may also help to tilt the phone slightly to reduce reflections. - The barcode scanner being used cannot read from monitors/screens.
In that case, the scanner in the library needs to be replaced. Please send us a message via the contact form and include the name of the library.
In an emergency, your card number is always shown on the digital card as well.
Is there a requirement to use the UHHApp?
The UHHApp is a service offered by UHH, and its use is not mandatory.
- Students can continue to print and use the UHH student ID available in STiNE.
- The staff ID included in the UHHApp does not have to be used. A paper staff ID card is not issued.
- All information and functions of the library card are still available via the library account website. However, the plastic library card will in future only be issued upon request.
I am a visiting student, and an invalid card is being displayed—why?
The student ID card in the UHHApp is not issued for visiting students, as they belong to the group of external students and have also not previously received a regular student ID card. This is not an error.

- English language version
- Further improvements to accessibility and visual design
- Expansion of the “Cafeteria” section (opening hours, display of multiple days)
Ideas for possible future development
The feasibility of ideas also depends on other IT systems and is often a complex task in practice. For some systems, such as STiNE, email, the semester ticket, and payment systems, there are already well-designed mobile websites or separate apps with a wide range of functionality. In such cases, we do not plan to fully integrate them into the UHHApp; instead, we link to the respective services.
Planned future developments
- Linking the UHH credentials and the library account (no second login required)
- Option for users to personalize the UHHApp start page (selection of news, selection of quick-access tiles)
- Push notifications
- UHH damage report
- Support for landscape mode
- EU student ID
- Use of NFC (e.g., for lockers, door access) — as soon as suitable use cases are available
Suggested developments that will not be implemented
-
Paying in the cafeteria
The Studierendenwerk has introduced cashless payment by regular credit/debit card and mobile payment. A payment function in the UHHApp would therefore offer no additional benefit. -
Integration of all UHH services into the UHHApp
Direct integration of STiNE, email, UHHCloud, OpenOlat, moodle, etc. into the UHHApp is not planned, since these applications already have their own apps and/or mobile-optimized websites. Recreating these applications would require considerable effort while providing only limited added value. All applications are linked in the UHHApp, ensuring quick access.
